What is Archivist?
Archivist is a web-based AI research assistant for public company filings. Ask questions in plain English about Canadian public companies and get cited answers drawn from thousands of SEDAR and SEC filings. Every answer links back to the original document so you can verify the source.
Getting Started
Get up and running in under a minute:
- Create an account — Sign up at /sign-up with your email
- Open the chat — Navigate to /chat to start your first conversation
- Ask a question— Type a natural language query about any Canadian public company's filings
- Explore sources— Click citation badges to open the original filing PDF and verify the answer
Chat Interface
The chat interface streams responses in real time as the AI searches through filings and composes an answer.
Citation Badges
Numbered badges like [1] [2] appear inline throughout the answer. Each badge links to a specific filing in the Sources panel. Click a badge to open the PDF at the cited section.
Follow-up Suggestions
After each response, suggestion chips appear with related follow-up queries. Click one to continue the research thread, or type your own question.
Model Selector
Choose between AI models in the input bar:
- Gemini 2.5 Pro— Default. Best for complex, multi-part research questions
- Gemini 2.0 Flash— Faster responses for straightforward lookups
Filter Bar
The filter bar sits above the chat input and lets you constrain searches before sending a query. Filters persist across messages until you clear them.
Company
Type a company name or stock symbol to filter results to a single company. The typeahead searches across company names, symbols, and aliases.
Filing Type
Select a specific filing type (e.g., Annual Information Form, Technical Report, MD&A) from the dropdown to narrow results.
Date Range
Set start and end dates to search within a specific period. Useful for tracking changes over time or focusing on recent disclosures.
Lock & Clear
Lock a filter to keep it applied across multiple queries. Clear all filters with one click to start a broad search.
Sources & PDF Viewer
The Sources panel on the right shows all filings cited in the conversation, grouped by filing type. Click any source to open the filing PDF.
PDF Viewer Features
- Auto-scroll— When you click a citation, the PDF scrolls to the cited section automatically
- In-PDF search— Search for text within the open PDF document
- Zoom controls— Zoom in/out and fit-to-width for comfortable reading
- Resizable panels— Drag the panel divider to adjust the chat vs. PDF split
Conversation History
The sidebar lists all your past conversations. Conversations are auto-titled based on your first query. Click any conversation to resume it with full context and sources restored.
Search
Press Cmd+K (or Ctrl+K) to search across all conversations by title.
Export & Sharing
- Copy message— Copy any individual message as Markdown
- Export conversation— Download the full conversation as a Markdown file with all citations preserved
- Download PDFs— Download source filing PDFs directly from the Sources panel
